HOWLOOP · THE DETAILS

Clear explanations. Checkable sources.

Updated 18 September 2026

Our publishing standard

Our aim is to explain a financial idea in plain English, give a worked example and make the assumptions visible. Articles are written for education, not to recommend a product or assess an individual’s circumstances.

Sources

We prefer Australian primary sources: ASIC’s Moneysmart, APRA, the Consumer Data Right register and official provider information. A guide includes links to the sources used for factual context. Examples are clearly labelled hypothetical or illustrative and are not presented as current offers.

Data and calculations

Public product feeds are machine-readable snapshots, not independently verified recommendations. We show retrieval dates and identify unavailable or partial data. Our methodology explains the formulas and which rate structures are supported. Calculator logic is checked against independent mathematical examples, including zero-interest cases and loan balances covered by offsets.

What a check does and does not establish

A source check compares the factual context with the cited primary material. A mathematical check compares an illustrative result with a formula or independent worked calculation. Neither establishes that an account suits a reader, and neither is a substitute for a financial professional reviewing advice about personal circumstances.

Each maintained money guide has its own publication date, material-update note and source-check date. The public updates and corrections record explains significant changes. We do not automatically refresh an article date when the site is rebuilt.

Keeping changing rules clear

Our rule-change record distinguishes proposals, laws passed with a future start, and rules in effect at the last check. We record who is affected and the application date separately from the announcement date. Reaching a planned start date does not automatically verify commencement.

Changing-rule pages are scheduled for review within 14 days; other lesson review intervals are shown on each page. When a review becomes due, the page displays a recheck warning. A check date is only advanced after the cited material has actually been reviewed. An unavailable or conflicting source must be investigated, not marked current. We prefer applicable legislation and dated guidance from the responsible agency, and explain material conflicts in the update record.

Use of AI

AI tools may assist with drafting, explanations, code and testing. AI assistance does not amount to review by a licensed financial professional. We do not claim specialist credentials or professional approval where none has been established.

Corrections and updates

Report a possible error through the contact page, ideally with a source or reproducible example. When content is changed, its date should reflect the actual update. A data retrieval date records when a feed was fetched; it is not a guarantee that a bank will keep that rate.

Commercial independence

Provider listings are alphabetical. Published calculations are not altered to favour an advertiser. Ads, sponsored placements and affiliate links, if introduced, must be distinguishable from editorial content and disclosed in context.

What we choose not to publish

We do not create a separate article for every bank feed or present machine-generated rankings as research. The bank explorer adds context and a calculation workflow to source data. Unavailable data is not filled in with invented rates. Hypothetical examples are distinguished from current offers.

Archived material

Older household and device guides remain accessible at their original URLs. They have a different subject area from the current money tools and should be read with their own dates and limitations in mind.
